The Web & Software Developer degree prepares you to become an entry-level computer programmer who will maintain and develop a variety of applications including client, server side and mobile applications. The program provides training using XHTML, JavaScript, PHP, Java, and Visual C++. Students will develop software using database management software (DBMS). The primary programming emphasis is on the Java, and PHP but also gaming and mobile applications will be covered. Web and Software Developers are needed in almost every kind of business today including entrepreneur software developer opportunities.

  • Webmaster: A webmaster is a person responsible for designing, developing, marketing, or maintaining Web site(s).
  • Web Designer: A Web Designer designs and prepares content for the World Wide Web, including text, images, site architecture and multimedia.

Program Outcomes
At the completion of this program, graduates are expected to be able to:
  • Programming: Design, code, test, implement, maintain, and document computer programs at an advanced level. Build the client-side and server-side interactive applications using XHTML, CSS, PHP, and JSP and write object-oriented Visual C++ programs.
  • Problem Solving and Troubleshooting: Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Determine causes of errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Database: Analyze, construct, and implement databases. Process data in relational databases using SQL command set.
  • Active Learning: Understand the implication of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision making. Analyze needs and product requirements to create a design.
  • System Analysis: Determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations and the environment will affect outcome. Perform entry-level systems analyst and design work to solve business problems using both traditional and object-oriented methodologies.
  • People Skills: Develop effective interpersonal skills. Demonstrate work ethics and reliable behavior. Work as a team member by demonstrating good communication and listening skills, cooperation, and providing a supportive environment.
  • Writing and Reading Comprehension: Understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. Write effective program and user documentation.
Program Admission Requirements
  • Complete required assessment testing.
  • Complete the application form.
  • Interview with counselor.
  • Pay a $30 nonrefundable application fee.
  • Submit high school and any post-secondary transcripts.
  • Students may re-apply to be admitted to a program for which they initially do not meet the Student Academic Achievement Plan (SAAP) criteria after they follow the additional courses and alternate program sequence prescibed for them.
