CPR & First Aid Class
CPR & First Aid classes are being held the first Saturday of every month (Beginning in August) with the exception of the months of January & July. The CPR class is held from 8:00 am to noon and the 1st Aid class is held from 12:30 to 4:00 pm. The cost for the Heartsaver CPR with AED is $49.85 and the cost for the 1st Aid class is $49.85. Both classes can be taken together for a total cost of $66.96.

Training to Help Wisconsin Businesses Win Government Contracts
Southwest Wisconsin Technical College (SWTC) will help area businesses learn how to effectively compete for contracts to sell their products and services to the federal government at a training seminar to be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2008. The training session will be conducted by the Business Procurement Assistance Center (BPAC) at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College’s Fennimore campus. A $30 fee for the seminar will cover the cost of materials.

Tractor and Machinery Youth Driver Operator Certification
A 24-credit hour tractor and machinery certification course will be conducted at the Southwest Tech campus in Fennimore. The final course for 2008 will be held July 28, 30, and 31. Class begins at 8 a.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m. The cost of the course is $79.93. This program is open to all youth under the age of 16. Early application is encouraged and preference will be given to older youth. Preregistration is necessary before July 21st.

Bricklaying Exploratory Course for Educators
This 30‐hour course offers a practical approach to masonry instruction and is designed to be a combination of lecture and hands‐on activities. It will help participants establish procedures necessary to implement a masonry class in their school districts. The class will run Monday ‐ Friday August 4 ‐ 8, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. ‐ 3:30 p.m.

Traffic Safety & Point Reduction
Traffic Safety-Point Reduction is a 12-hour course. The primary focus of the course is to encourage students to examine their driving behavior and attitudes, and to determine personal change required to improve their ability to operate a vehicle safely.

CPR for EMT's
The CPR for EMT's class will be held on campus (days) and at Lancaster (evenings). Class will begin on August 11, 2008. Day class will be from 8:30 to 12:30 and Evening class will be from 6:00 to 10:00, both will be held on Monday and Wednesday. CPR for EMT's is required prior to taking the EMT Basaic class.
Student demonstrates recognition and responding to life-threatening emergencies such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, and foreign-body airway obstruction. Students demonstrate skills of CPR for victims of all ages. Students recognize emergencies and provide the first three links in the American Heart Association Chain of Survival.

ICS 400 - Part I - Cuba City
Class will be from 6:00 tp 10:00. ICS 400 part one will be held on August 18 and part two will be held on September 15. Both sessions will need to be completed in order to receive certification. ICS 300 is a pre-requisite.
EMT Basic Class - Southwest Tech (Days) & Lancaster (Evenings)
The EMT Basic class will be held on campus (days) and at Lancaster (evenings). Class will begin on August 18, 2008. Day class will be from 8:30 to 12:30 and Evening class will be from 6:00 to 10:00, both will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays. CPR for EMT's is a pre-requisite.
EMT-Basics perform the skills necessary to respond to emergency calls and provide efficient and immediate care to critically ill and injured patients, both at the location of the emergency and during transport to the appropriate medical facility. They integrate critical thinking, emergency care concepts and skills in managing patients into an overall pre-hospital treatment plan for their patients and coordinate this plan with the hospital emergency department staff. Successful completion of this course can lead to licensure by the State of Wisconsin as an EMT-Basic.

Auctioneer Continuing Education
Southwest Tech will be offering the required continuing education for auctioneers this summer. Class sessions will meet from 4:00-8:00 p.m. in room 492 all dates except for August 28 when class will be held in room 366. Cost of each class is $29.23. Following is a listing of class dates and topics that have been designated by the Department of Regulation and Licensing. The following classes will be held; Tuesday, August 19 – Auctioneer Ethical and Professional Conduct/Wisconsin Laws, Thursday, August 21 – Maintenance of Records and Trust Accounts/Wisconsin Laws, Tuesday, August 26 –Real Estate Auctions- Practice and Legal Requirements, Thursday, August 28 – Federal and Wisconsin Laws Relating to Auctioneering. At the end of each session is a required 15-question multiple-choice test. Students must get 70% correct in order to pass. This is the only time during this biennium that auctioneer continuing education will be offered.
First Responder Advanced Skills - Cuba City
This class will be held at the Cuba City Fire and EMS building on Saturday, August 23, 2009 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The First Responder will be trained in the appropriate use of non-visualized advance airway to provide a patent airway for patients per State Ptotocols. The First Responder will be trained in the administration of epinephrine via auto-injector per Wisconsin State Protocols. The First Responder will be trained in proper complete spinal immobilization techniques per WI State Protocols.

Real Estate Law
Southwest Tech will be offering Real Estate Law beginning Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Classes will meet from 5:30-9:30 p.m. in room 310, Media Center in building 300 on the Southwest Tech campus in Fennimore. The 72-hour class will meet every Wednesday through December 17, 2008. Attorney Mark Randall is the instructor. The course meets the Department of Regulation and Licensing educational requirements to become a real estate salesperson. Cost of the course is $407.72. Textbooks are approximately $80 and can be purchased the first night of class.

A 56 hour First Responder class will be held at the Lancaster Fire/EMS building beginning on September 4, 2008. The class will run every Thursday from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. First Responders secure the emergency scene, control traffic flow, summon appropriate help from other emergency departments, gain access to patients, administer initial emergency care, move patients if necessary and control the activities of bystanders. They attempt to prevent death or additional injuries to their patients prior to the arrival of the Emergency Medical Technicians. Successful completion of this course can lead to voluntary certification by the State of Wisconsin as a "Certified First Responder"

This course includes topics relating to ethics in real estate, the Department of Regulation and Licensing complaint process, and fair housing.
