The Application Process, From Start to Finish

Apply for Associate Degree, Technical Diploma, and Certificate Programs in ten easy steps

  • Fill out application and pay $30 application fee. Complete and a Wisconsin Technical College System Application to Southwest Tech. You may also request an application by contacting Student Services.Send a $30 non-refundable application fee. You may pay online via credit card or send a check payable to Southwest Tech.
  • Submit your transcripts
    Contact each school you have previously attended and ask to have your official transcripts mailed directly to Southwest Tech. Transcripts include: High School, GED/HSED, College or University
  • Admission application processing
    After your application is processed, you will receive a letter in the mail explaining the next step in the application process.
  • Complete assessment test
    If required, you should complete the assessment test as soon as possible. A $7–$30 fee will apply. The results may be used to assess skills in math, reading, and placement in classes. All fees are subject to change. Contact Student Services to set up a testing time. Call 608.822.2351 or toll free, 800.362.3322, Ext. 2351 (tdd: 608.822.2072).
  • Meet with a counselor
    After completing your skills assessment, you will meet with a counselor to discuss academic planning and specific program information.
  • Apply for financial aid
    Financial aid comes in many forms, including grants, loans, work/study opportunities, and agency funding. All students are encouraged to apply for financial aid regardless of their financial status.
  • Entering your program
    Once you have met all admission requirements you will receive a letter from Southwest Tech informing you of the status of your application. New program students beginning in August must pay a $100 tuition down payment (students beginning in January pay their $100 down payment when registering for classes).
  • Attend New Student Registration/ Orientation and Teacher/Learner Connection (TLC)
    After you have completed the entire application process, you will receive a letter inviting you to New Student Registration/Orientation and TLC.
  • Register for classes
    You will register for classes online using the MySWTC online system.
  • You’re Ready to Begin Classes!
