Southwest Tech Student Delivers Free Resources To Those In Need
Paige Johnston, a student in the Nonprofit Leadership program at Southwest Tech, has been busy this summer. She bought a camper, but instead of camping she started The Boundless Trailer, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Through the trailer, Paige helps combat poverty and assists when natural disasters strike. She offers support and distributes everyday items, such as clothing and toiletries to those in need.

Twenty students from throughout our five-county service district are nearing the completion of the Youth Tractor Safety Certification course on campus. The five-day educational session ends Friday, July 11 with a tractor driving skill test. Once they pass, students 14 and older will be certified to drive anywhere in the U.S, while those under 14 will be authorized to drive in Wisconsin. Once they turn 14, they will then be allowed to drive in other states.
The class is open to youth who are at least 12 years old. It is designed to fulfill the Wisconsin mandate that any youth under the age of 16 must complete a tractor and machinery certification course to operate agricultural machinery on public roads. This course provides hands-on training in the following units: safety, instruments and controls, maintenance, starting and stopping tractors, tractor safety on the farm, tractor hitches, PTO equipment, and a tractor driving skill test.
In addition, the Southwest Tech course included guest speakers who have survived tractor accidents, a representative from the Fennimore Fire Department, as well as a grain bin safety demonstration.
Thank you to everyone who attended, and to the instructors who did a tremendous job!
