Today, the Wisconsin State Senate recognized Southwest Wisconsin Technical College as the #1 community college in the nation, celebrating our selection as the 2025 winner of the prestigious Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence.

We are incredibly grateful to our state legislatorsโ€”especially Senator Howard Marklein, Wisconsin State Representative Travis Tranel, and their dedicated staffโ€”for leading the charge to honor this moment. Their recognition sends a clear and powerful message: what happens in Southwest Wisconsin matters. When our legislators stand behind our students and believe in the mission of technical education, it strengthens not just our collegeโ€”but the entire region we serve.

At Southwest Tech, we see firsthand how education breathes life into rural communitiesโ€”helping local businesses grow, families thrive, and entire communities stay strong for the next generation.

This recognition also reflects the strength of the Wisconsins Technical Colleges, a system grounded in a shared purpose: to connect students, educators, and employers in ways that build opportunity and a better future for all. When people come together with that kind of purpose and care, truly remarkable things happen.

Weโ€™re also grateful to the whole group of co-sponsors who stood with us in this celebration:
Senators Pfaff, Keyeski, Ratcliff, Roys, and Spreitzer;
Representatives Novak, Kurtz, Johnson, J. Jacobson, Brown, Goodwin, Miresse, Murphy, Oโ€™Connor, Sinicki, Stroud, Stubbs, and Prado.

Southwest Tech Board Chair, and President of the Wisconsin Technical College District Boards Association (DBA), Charles Bolstad, along with our Vice President for Administrative Services, Caleb White, and Chief Academic Officer, Cynde Larsen, were present at the Capitol to celebrate on behalf of Southwest Tech. Their presence was a proud moment for our college and a reflection of the dedicated leadership behind this achievement.

This honor reflects the shared commitment of a region and a state that invests in education with the belief that it will return tenfold. Whether our graduates stay close to home or take Southwest Wisconsin pride with them wherever they go, we know they carry the hopes of this place, and they are delivering on them every day.

To every legislator who supported this resolution: thank you for standing with our students and recognizing the power of technical education to shape Wisconsinโ€™s future.Image attachment

……. What a great learning institution ! We are lucky to have this gem here in SW Wis . What a great career path ! Congrats !

Congratulations!

Congratulations! ๐ŸŽŠ

Congratulations to students, faculty and staff. What a great honor!

A wonderful learning place for so many residents! Too bad the Republicans soaking up the honor pretending they care, when they are busy cutting money from school budgets (oh, except for their friends who own charter schools...they get more dollars).
