720 Hour Law Enforcement Academy Orientation at Southwest Tech
Southwest Tech Law Enforcement Academy Takes Place Dec. 14
Fennimore, WI -Orientation for the 720 Hour Police Academy at Southwest Tech took place on December 14th, 2016 at Southwest Tech in Fennimore. Orientation helped familiarize the 11 students with the three separate components of the new, expanded academy. The first phase begins on January 17th and will include basic skills, application, hands-on practice and a written test. The remaining two phases of this academy will build upon what students have learned and allow for them to better retain the skills and knowledge they’ve developed during training. With the addition of 200 hours from the prior version of Law Enforcement Academy, Southwest Tech (whose instructors teach the program) and UW-Platteville (where the classroom coursework takes place) collaborated to develop a means of delivering this academy to work with busy student schedules. Full-time classes will begin in the second phase of the academy in June, and during the spring students will be able to take classes part-time to fit in with their existing coursework or jobs and earn college credit for their police academy hours–a benefit for students relying upon Financial Aid and working their way toward a degree. The orientation included 11 students with a mix of students from Southwest Tech, UW-Platteville, and members of the general public.
