Dawn Adkins, 1992 Nursing graduate

We asked our faculty and staff who are also Southwest Tech alumni to share their Southwest Tech story so we could put the spotlight on them!
Dawn Adkins, 1992 Nursing alumna now serving as a Nursing Instructor at Southwest Tech.
Why did you choose Southwest Tech?
Southwest Tech had the program I wanted and it was close to home so I didn’t have to travel a great distance.
What impact did the College have on your career?
Southwest Tech gave me a jump start to where I am today. After receiving my associate nursing degree I went to work as a staff nurse, then a nurse manager in one of our rural hospitals. I was given an opportunity to be an adjunct instructor with first-year nursing students for one semester. I knew then I wanted to teaching nursing so I went back to school for my master degree in nursing. I started working full time at Southwest Tech as a nursing instructor while finishing my degree.
What is something you think every student should participate in?
Community involvement
What are you proudest of?
The caring compassionate instructors that we have at Southwest Tech.
What are your passions outside of work?
My family and grandchildren, and Working with horses and people with disabilities through equine assisted activities.
