CollEDGE Up programs starting at Platteville High School

Fennimore -

Students at Platteville High School will have two new opportunities for career readiness available to them through a course collaboration with Southwest Wisconsin Technical College and CESA 3. The programs that will be offered are the One and Done Laboratory Science and CNC Machine Operator/Programmer, taught in-house at Platteville High School.

These programs are available for senior level students beginning at the start of next school year and upon completion, they will earn a technical diploma in addition to their high school diploma.

“We are thrilled to offer the opportunity for Platteville High School students to graduate at the end of their senior year with their college degree in-hand,” says Platteville High School principal, Jacob Crase. “Job opportunities in both of these fields in our community are in high demand and we are excited to set them up for a life-long career.”

CollEDGE Up is offered through Southwest Tech as part of a student’s Academic Career Plan (ACP). It allows high school students to save time and money in earning their college degree, and it also could potentially allow for time for other classes or work while attending college.

“Both programs are unique in their own way and bring an advanced skill set to high school students,” says Kim Maier, director of Innovative and Alternative Learning at Southwest Tech. “Southwest Tech is taking an innovative approach to the current learning environment and offering students a pathway to career success.”

These programs will begin to be offered at Platteville High School starting at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year and will consist of 16 credits in Lab Science and 26 credits in CNC Machine Operator that include a combination of online work and in-school lab time twice each week. Due to the collaboration with CESA 3, these programs will also be available to everyone within the region including Platteville’s neighboring school districts.

For more information on these programs, contact Mary Johannesen, Career Prep and Dual Enrollment Coordinator at Southwest Tech, at (608) 822-2367 or mjohannesen@swtc.edu, or Tischa Busch, PHS Guidance Counselor, at (608) 342-4020 or busch@platteville.k12.wi.us.
