Trumm shaping young minds at daycare business (video)

Alumni Success Story

Boscobel -

From a Southwest Wisconsin Technical College graduate to business owner – that was the path for Lexa Trumm. She graduated from the Early Childhood Education program in 2017 and now operates Lexa’s Littles daycare in Boscobel, Wisconsin. “I’ve always loved working with kids,” said Trumm. “My mom was a teacher and I always wanted to be a teacher like her.”

Trumm graduated from Boscobel High School in 2015. After graduation she worked in the infant/toddler room at Headstart for nearly two years. After her daughter was born in 2019, Trumm started her in-home daycare business. “My dream was to always start my own daycare,” she said.

During her time at Southwest Tech, Trumm learned valuable skills about childcare, as well as operating her own business. “And, one of the teachers was really helpful,” she said. “She helped me get through some of that, even when I wasn’t in college. They’re all great teachers, too.”

Trumm takes care of eight children, including her own daughter. She enjoys seeing all the children grow up and learn over the years. “It’s really cool,” she said.

The programming at the daycare includes quite a bit of free play, as well as learning activities, such as writing, math, science, and social studies. The children also get to play outside as much as possible.

Trumm would like to eventually own her own daycare center, similar to Southwest Tech’s facility.
