Southwest Wisconsin Technical College Hosts Ag Day

Jeff Lyon, Interim Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) addressed the group during the welcome.

Fennimore, Wisconsin -

FENNIMORE, Wis. – On September 20, Southwest Tech hosted Ag Day for area high schools. Over 100 students from River Valley, Wauzeka-Steuben, Darlington, Prairie Du Chien, Argyle, North Crawford, Blackhawk Lancaster, Dodgeville, Cassville, Barneveld, Riverdale, and Fennimore High Schools were in attendance.

Jeff Lyon, Interim Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) addressed the group during the welcome.

Southwest Tech agriculture instructors and current students hosted educations sessions including: What’s in your Milk, using a refractometer for testing the quality of milk replacer and colostrum; Oh no, she needs help, assisting a cow during delivery with care; Hey, that’s my farm, practice using precision agriculture software; Ag Leader, locate family’s (or neighbor’s) farmland; Check out these plants I grew, tour the new growlab used to grow vegetables, row crops, and hands-on applications with herbicides; Let me Out, troubleshoot the many ways fluid in an engine finds a path of least resistance; Where did Atom go, practice skills on monitoring electrical current in today’s farm equipment; Pests and Disease, Oh my, identify plant deficiencies that may be found in corn and soybean fields.

Southwest Tech expanded their agricultural program opportunities to serve an increasing dynamic agriculture industry. The new program structure allows students to specialize in the agriculture career of their choice, and puts them on the path to success.
