Fennimore, Wis. -The Southwest Wisconsin Technical College Boscobel Outreach Site is offering a Career Exploration and Goal Setting Workshop on May 1 and May 15. The event will be hosted in the Club Room in the lower level of the Boscobel Library, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
In response to the needs of community, Boscobel businesses, local government agencies, school counselors and Southwest Tech have collaborated to host an event that addresses the needs of dislocated workers, and those looking to improve their financial future through new work opportunities. This workshop will focus on identifying the strengths and passions of each individual and match them with current employment opportunities, and their financial goals.
Marlene Klein has been the Adjunct Instructor at the Boscobel Outreach Site for 20 years. Klein believes that community members will benefit from this workshop more than others in the past because of the improvements that have been made and the partnership with area services.
Klein knows the importance of Southwest Tech’s purposes and feels that the seven outreach sites across the five-county district help to fulfill the college purposes. As outlined on the college website, Southwest Tech purposes are to: Provide apprenticeship, certificate, technical diploma, and associate degree programs that respond to District workforce needs and prepare students for family-sustaining jobs and career advancement. Provide customized training, retraining, and technical assistance to businesses, industries, and individuals that foster economic development and the expansion of employment opportunities. Collaborate with schools to provide K-12 students opportunities to explore college and career options as well as to enhance their preparation for post secondary education and employment. Provide career pathways and collegiate transfer opportunities programs that enable graduates to continue their education. Provide continuing education opportunities to enhance the occupational knowledge and skills of District workers and residents. Provide Adult Basic Education, GED/HSED, bridge, and other programs that help unskilled or low-skilled individuals prepare for work, post secondary education, or career advancement. Provide education and services which address barriers created by stereotyping and discriminating and assist minorities, women and the handicapped or disadvantaged to participate in the work force and the full range of technical college programs and activities. Provide community services and avocational or self-enrichment activities.
This partnership brings counselors, employers, community members, and professionals in a variety of fields together from the Boscobel community to discuss employment and community success. In the future, the Boscobel Outreach Site hopes to offer this opportunity twice a year.
This event is free, with refreshments and prizes provided by Southwest Tech. Individuals can register for the workshop by calling the Director of Pre-college Programs and Service Occupations, Julie Pluemer at 608-822-2369.
