Hired Before Graduation – Sam Neisius

Name: Sam Neisius

Hometown: Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin

Graduation date: May 19, 2018

Area of study: Electro-Mechanical Technology

Place of employment: Quad Graphics – Hartford, Wisconsin

Job responsibilities: I will be their new dryer technician. I will be working on the printing press dryers as the ink comes through – all of the PLCs, making sure the ink dries and if there are any issues I am the one they will call to fix it.

How did Southwest Tech prepare you for your current position? All of the core classes I took for the PLCs, industrial wiring and motor controllers all applied to the job. It was perfect.

Why did you choose your current field? I always like to be hands-on. I took a roundabout way to get it, but I ended up coming through and I always enjoy working on things and seeing the end product. If something isn’t right, I like tinkering with it along the way.

What advice would you have for younger students who are thinking about their future? Come to tech college first to see what your passions are first and save yourself the money. Don’t go and waste three years and realize you hate teaching or something along those lines. Come and experiment and see what classes you like. Take a beginner class in each section and see what you like.
