Blue Line Club Visits Good Samaritan Center

Soutwest Tech Criminal Justice Students Bring Holiday Cheer to Nursing Home Residents

Fennimore, WI -

On Tuesday, December 13, Southwest Tech Criminal Justice Studies students who are part of the Blue Line Club visited the Good Samaritan Center in Fennimore, WI to host trivia and go room-to-room delivering gifts and talking with residents.  Students enjoyed their time at the center and learned that reaching out and connecting with the community is an important and rewarding part of a career in law enforcement.  Arranged by Gary Roberts, criminal justice instructor, to emphasize the importance of giving back to the community and strengthen the connection between police work and community.  “This kind of interaction is representative of being a police officer.  Checking on and in with people who are in need of help or just need to talk to someone.  It’s a good experience for [their] future jobs,” Roberts told two students.  But this project was about more than building career skills, this is just one example of how much work Southwest Tech does to give back, especially during the holiday season. Residents of the nursing home enjoyed each receiving a gift and being eligible for prizes during trivia, but also the time to speak to someone who cares or even hear a holiday song.

Nick Kennicker, Hazel Green (left) and Janet Garcia, Livingston, both second year Criminal  Justice Studies students visited rooms talking to residents and singing songs as requested to bring holiday cheer.
