Dairy goat industry in the spotlight at Southwest Tech
Fennimore -
Southwest Wisconsin Technical College in Fennimore, Wisconsin, in partnership with the Wisconsin Dairy Goat Association, will be hosting the annual Dairy Goat Academy on Nov. 1 and 2. The two-day event will include dairy goat specific programming, as well as breakout sessions, a vendor fair, expert presenters and a sale, among other highlights. There will also be a trade show and plenty of opportunities to network with industry professionals.
“Wisconsin leads the nation for dairy goat production, with the majority of milking goats located right here in southwest Wisconsin,” said Clare Heberlein, dairy goat herd management coordinator/instructor at Southwest Tech.
This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Melissa O’Rourke, farm management specialist at Iowa State Extension. She will be discussing risk management.
The event will also include breakout sessions on animal welfare training, marketing meat goats, best practices for milking, transitioning to organic and many other topics.
Attendees will also be offered a tour of the Nelson Horst family farm.
The Wisconsin Dairy Goat Association will be hosting a select goat sale on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. Breeding animals from throughout the state will offered at the auction. Viewing will be available at 9 a.m.
