Kreutz earns his way to national championship

Fennimore -
Scott Kennedy, Golf Course Management Instructor and Golf Team Coach, discusses yardage and wind on the par 3, 12th hole, with Brandon Kreutz.

It was an exciting academic year for Brandon Kreutz, culminating in a trip to New York. A student in the Golf Course Management program, and member of the golf team, Kreutz earned his way to the NJCAA Division 3 National Championship golf tournament at the Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York last month. Kreutz finished 38th out of 96 golfers, carding a one-over-par 73. “This was the biggest event Brandon has ever played in and he competed very well with some of the best players in the country,” said Scott Kennedy, golf team coach and Golf Course Management instructor at Southwest Tech. “I am proud of his performance, and we are looking forward to competing again next season.”

“It was a fun tournament,” said Kreutz of his time playing in the national championship. “I really hope our entire team can go next year.”

Kreutz qualified for the national tournament by being the Region 13 medalist last October at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, Minnesota. Region 13 includes Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Finishing in the top 15 in New York would have secured All-American status for Kreutz. That is his prime goal heading into next season.

Kreutz, a Madison, Wisconsin, native, is currently working an internship at TPC Wisconsin, in Madison. He has already been offered a second assistant superintendent position at the course following graduation in May.

In addition to the internship, Kreutz has been heavily involved with the TPC organization this summer. He worked at the PGA’s John Deere Classic and is planning to work the 3M Open. He will also be part of the team that will work at the American Family Championship in Madison next year, which is hosted by Steve Stricker, PGA professional. “I get to talk with him quite a bit,” said Kreutz. “It’s just a great time.”
