New grant to provide funding for eligible program students

Fennimore -

Students enrolling in Southwest Wisconsin Technical College’s Early Childhood Education or Child Care Services programs can apply to have their tuition, books, and fees paid in full. In addition, students could be eligible to receive weekly transportation assistance and stipends as part of a new grant program offered by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, administered by the Southwest Wisconsin Workforce Development Board (SWWDB).

“This unique opportunity is certainly a game changer for students in our district,” said Renae Blaschke, Early Childhood Education instructor. “Many times, finances are the sticking point in a student continuing their education. We desperately need more early childhood education educators and childcare professionals in our district and this program will go a long way to helping fill those gaps.”

The Essential Child Care funding will provide financial assistance for the next two years. It will subsidize training for individuals entering childcare/early childcare education programs. Anyone interested in applying for funding, can contact Kris Case, SWWDB project coordinator for this grant, at k.case@swwdb.org or 608-931-1464.

Assistance with the application process is also being offered through Southwest Tech. Anyone with questions, can contact Kaye Woodke, assistant recruiter, at kwoodke@swtc.edu or 608-822-2649.

  • The program is being made available by a grant from the American Rescue Plan Act Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds.
