Online Supply Chain Management Associates Degree to Offer 1-Credit Classes
1-Credit Classes in Supply Chain Management Make Completing a Degree Easier
Fennimore -Starting this August Southwest Tech’s Online Supply Chain Management Associates Degree is moving to a new model that helps students, especially working adults, earn more credit for prior learning and more easily achieve their goal of earning a degree on their own time. Classes are offered according to a one-credit competency-based model. Each class takes only four weeks to complete. This model is currently being used by our Online Supervisory Management program and has created a schedule that meets the needs of working adults.
Prior to this change, the Online Supply Chain Management Program was designed to be completed in 15 week semesters, like traditional, on-campus programs. “Committing to an entire semester can be daunting to a returning student. Working full-time, family, and other needs make traditional schedules a challenge, so this program not only makes it easy to take courses, but if work or life demands require a student to take time off from school–it’s only four weeks then they can pick up again right where they left off,” said Doris Pulvermacher, Southwest Tech’s Supply Chain Management Instructor.
In addition to the flexibility of class length, one-credit classes allow Southwest Tech to make the topic of each class more targeted which in turn makes it easier to award Credit for Prior learning. Louise Bradley, Grant/Credit for Prior Learning Coordinator noted, “When a class is one-credit it’s easier to determine if a student has work, life, or military experience that fulfills the educational outcomes of that course. That allows us to be more generous and fair in how we award credit to students. The positive outcome this has on incoming students is really a highlight of the program.”
