Patel selected as State Student Ambassador

Fennimore -

Kajal Patel, a Graphic and Web Design student, has been selected as the newest state student ambassador at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College. Her term begins in April when she will attend the State Student Ambassador Banquet in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. Following the banquet, Patel will serve a one-year term as an ambassador.

The State Student Ambassador program is an initiative of the Wisconsin Technical College System. Each of Wisconsin’s 16 technical colleges selects one student every year to participate in the leadership development and recognition program sponsored by Baird, a global, employee-owned, Milwaukee-based financial services firm.

After a day of team building and leadership development, the students are celebrated at a formal banquet attended by family members, System and college leaders and other invited guests. There, the students receive an award and scholarship and share stories of determination, perseverance and success.

Patel grew up in Richland Center, Wisconsin and graduated from high school in 2023. She then enrolled at Southwest Tech. Her sister was enrolled in the accounting program at the time and encouraged Patel to attend. “It was the best decision I ever made,” she said.

Initially, Patel was interested in a marketing program. Not having one available in the area, she chose graphic and web design. Following graduation in May, she intends to pursue a bachelor’s degree in marketing through Franklin University. A majority of the classes will be online, in addition to general education classes being offered at Southwest Tech.

Patel enjoys the graphic and web design program because of its hands-on involvement. She is a visual learner and has enjoyed producing a portfolio, resumes, and cover letters. In addition, she is able to participate in mock interviews and be creative through a variety of projects. “I really like the instructors,” she said. “They are really supportive, and they care about your future.”

In addition to her coursework, Patel works in the Chargers Bookstore, is president of the student senate, and volunteers to help with campus events.

Patel has nothing but rave reviews for Southwest Tech. “I love it,” she said. “It is absolutely amazing. I have made so many great friends and co-workers. It has been a great experience, overall.”
