Schneider and Anderson receive Janet Kohlenberg Memorial Professional Development Award
Fennimore -On Tuesday, May 15 Southwest Tech Student Success Coach Matt Schneider and Welding Instructor Ed Anderson were surprise recipients of the Janet Kohlenberg Memorial Professional Development Award. This award was made possible by a donation from Jim Kohlenberg, Southwest Tech District Board Member, in memory of his wife Janet Kohlenberg. Schneider and Anderson were selected for the professional development award based on their exemplary service to the college and demonstration of the college values of Partnerships and Learning.
Schneider was nominated for his persistence helping students to stay enrolled when considering dropping out, his willingness to take on additional duties when needed to support his co-workers and advisees, and his participation in extra recruitment activities for both traditional and non-traditional students.
Anderson was nominated for going above and beyond to help students struggling to keep up with class work, partnering with the Southwest Tech Foundation to offer Welding 101 classes for alumni and community members, and presenting his use of a new online teaching tool during Learning Academy to assist other instructors.
Nominations for the award were taken from campus “Shout-Outs” in which the employee was recognized for displaying the college values of Partnerships and Learning. “Shout-Outs” are a form of recognition in which college employees are encouraged to recognize colleagues by submitting a Shout-Out form that details what the employee did that should be recognized and what college value(s) it aligns with.
“We thank Jim for memorializing his wife through this donation to the Foundation and appreciate his desire to support college employees by offering these professional development stipends,” said Holly Clendenen, executive director of the Southwest Tech Foundation.
