Southwest Tech signs transfer agreements with UW-P

Southwest Wisconsin Technical College (Southwest Tech) has signed a transfer agreement with the University of Wisconsin-Platteville (UW-Platteville). The agreement supports college students’ desire to continue their education after completing the two-year liberal arts associate of science (A.S.) and associate of arts (A.A.) degrees. Southwest Tech recently received approval from The Higher Learning Commission to award the degrees. The agreement was approved by the UW Board of Regents this past summer.
Officials from both institutions recently gathered at Southwest Tech for a transfer agreement signing ceremony. Under this new agreement, students who earn the 60-credit A.A. or A.S. degrees at Southwest Tech can transfer to UW-Platteville with junior standing and apply all their credits toward a UW-Platteville Bachelor of Business Administration.
“The degrees available through this new agreement will allow Southwest Tech and UW-Platteville to expand educational options for our communities,” said Jason S. Wood, Ph.D Southwest Tech president. “One of the many meaningful outcomes of the agreement is that students will be able to complete these degrees by staying entirely in Southwest Wisconsin.”

Southwest Tech students seeking a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice will also have new options thanks to an agreement between Southwest Tech and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. “Our college is focusing on how we can better align our associate degree programs with what it takes to transfer all credits to a four-year university with junior year standing in a major, and align those career pathways with the expectations of employers that offer family-sustaining wage jobs. This partnership will make a career in criminal justice accessible to more students in Southwest Wisconsin,” said Wood. “We are so pleased to partner with UW-Platteville to achieve this. Our combined efforts will strengthen the state’s workforce and provide highly-qualified criminal justice professionals to fill high-demand positions.”
The number of law enforcement officers in the state ticked down again in 2023, setting a new record for the lowest statewide total since the Wisconsin Department of Justice started tracking the numbers in 2008.

The new transfer agreements will go into effect in the Fall of 2023.
