Southwest Tech to Begin Trapshooting Team

Southwest Tech will be the first in the Wisconsin Technical College System to offer trapshooting.

Fennimore, WI -

Fennimore, WI- When students return to Southwest Tech on August 22, there will be a new opportunity in front of them. Southwest Tech will be the first in the Wisconsin Technical College System to offer trapshooting.

“Trapshooting will give students a new way to identify and connect with Southwest Tech during their time here,” said Dr. Jason Wood, college president.

Trapshooting will be the Charger’s second intercollegiate offering, and co-ed sport, building on the growing popularity of the sport among Wisconsin high school students. In 2016 over a thousand students participated in Wisconsin High School Trapshooting competitions, including 12 local high schools within Southwest Tech’s district. At the college level, over 300 colleges have formal trapshooting across the nation.

Practices and home competitions will be held at the Muscoda Sportsman’s Club. Student athletes will compete as the Southwest Tech Chargers.

“It’s a great opportunity for students to learn a new sport, or continue participating in organized trapshooting competitions, at the college level,” said Matt Schneider, Southwest Tech Trapshooting co-coach. “The Trapshooting Team is a way to bring students of diverse backgrounds and experiences together on our campus” added Dan Imhoff, co-coach of the Southwest Tech Trapshooting Team.

Southwest Tech is part of the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP), a national organization that provides kids from elementary grades through high school and college with the opportunity to participate in the fun and challenging sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet. Southwest offers over 50 programs that span disciplines and industries. For more information, please visit our team page, www.swtc.edu/trap.
