Emily Thielbar
Hometown: Mount Horeb, Wisconsin
Program: Human Services Associates
Why did you choose your program?
I chose this program because I love helping people. When I was a CNA, I fell in love with the aspect of caregiving. I initially thought this path would lead me to nursing. After a lot of thought consideration, I decided I wanted to help people mentally rather than physically. I am so happy with my choice because this field of work is what I am passionate about.
What have you enjoyed about your Southwest Tech experience?
Everyone is so helpful and kind. Southwest Tech wants you to succeed and they show you that. They offer so many great services including Academic Support. This is a place where they truly care about student success and well-being. They offer more than just help academically. They have offered financial help including grants and gas cards for students. Southwest Tech also offers free mental health services to students. This place is truly a student focused college and that is what I love about them.
Are you involved in any student club or activities on campus?
I was involved somewhat in Human Services Club. I made tie blankets for the homeless to help out.
Where will you be employed?
Wisconsin Early Autism Project (WEAP) and Lancaster Health Services.

As for my job title with Lancaster Health Services they will be Life Enrichment Coordinator and CNA. My responsibility with the coordinator position will be to conduct social activities within the nursing home. I will also be helping as a CNA, and I will assist the elderly with their activities of daily living.
