Hired Before Graduation – Larissa Rounds

Name: Larissa Rounds

Hometown: Boscobel, Wisconsin

Graduation date: May 18, 2019

Area of study: Culinary Management

Place of employment: Lemon Door Coffee House – Fennimore, Wisconsin

Job title: Baker and Manager

Job responsibilities: I will be baking a bread, scone, brownie, and cookie daily. I will also be helping with the everyday operation of the business, such as scheduling, ordering, and training.

How did Southwest Tech prepare you for your current position? I found our cost control class very helpful; it shows you how to find your food costs and how to keep them down. Jeff and Karen are both great mentors, who are easy to approach and willing to help whenever asked.

Why did you choose your field of study? I originally chose culinary arts, because I have a passion for baking, and I wanted to own my own business. I changed my major to culinary management, because I found out that all the baking classes are taught in the first year and that the culinary management program better prepared you for managing a restaurant or other food service establishment.

What advice would you have for other students thinking about advancing their education? If you don’t know what you want to become, just take a few general education classes and get into a college life, but don’t be afraid to take a leap and go for what you think will make you happy in the long run.
