Hired Before Graduation – Megan Zart

Name: Megan Zart

Hometown: Fennimore

Graduation date: May 18, 2019

Area of study: Human Services Associates

Place of employment: Wisconsin Early Autism Project (WEAP)

Job title: Behavioral Treatment Technician

Job responsibilities: Work one-on-one with kids (18 months to school age) with special needs/developmental challenges. Receive ongoing training to provide behavior therapy/Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) – to create lasting change for the youth and their families, work with kids in their home or in one of WEAP’s centers with a focus on activities they naturally do (play!)

How did Southwest Tech prepare you for your current position? Southwest Wisconsin is such a rural area. I’ve seen many people struggle to get the help they need because of this. I feel that this helped me prepare because I’ll be working in Grant County, even though the main center and offices are in Madison.

Why did you choose your field of study? I chose to study human services because I want to make a difference. The ability to be a positive change that someone needs in their life, it’s just magical. I want to inspire people to never give up and work with them to reach their goals.

What advice would you have for other students thinking about advancing their education? I would have to say don’t overthink it if you want to go back to school and further your education. Do it! The more you dwell on it, the more likely you’re not going to go back.
