Mike Eidem

Hometown: Horicon, Wisconsin

Program: Electrical Power Distribution

Why did you choose this program?

Right after high school I went to UW-Madison and earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology – Exercise and Movement Science. I had planned to go on to Chiropractic school but changed my mind. I heard about the EPD program through some mutual friends and was drawn to it for a lot of reasons. I enjoy being able to work outside, do something very meaningful and different everyday, help the community, and get involved in a career field that’s heading in a great direction with a lot of opportunities.

What have you enjoyed about your Southwest Tech Experience?

I’ve really appreciated how helpful SWTC has been with setting me up for success in my program and beyond. They are always reaching out to make sure I have the resources I need. My EPD instructor, Joe Randall, has also been very helpful in numerous ways, from the day I first toured campus all the way till I recently got hired.

Where will you be employed?

I will be employed with Madison Gas and Electric | Madison, Wisconsin

What will be your job title and responsibilities?

I will start out as an Apprentice Line Technician and work my way towards becoming a Journeyman Line Technician. My main responsibilities will be constructing and maintaining the overhead and underground electrical power distribution system in and around the Madison area.
