Sammi Bossert

Hometown: Mineral Point, Wisconsin

Program: Medical Laboratory Technician

Why did you choose your program?

I chose the Medical Laboratory Technician program because I really liked the idea of helping people, but I didn’t like all the patient interaction. It doesn’t require direct patient care. It’s behind the scenes, but you still get to help doctors decide a diagnosis and treatment. It also provides fast entry into the workplace. After only two years you can be ready for employment in the growing career. Finally, the cross between science, tech, and healthcare is the perfect mix of perfection for me.

What have you enjoyed about your Southwest Tech experience?

The Southwest Wisconsin Technical College experience was something I will never forget. The teachers are willing to put in extra time to help an individual if needed and that can be rare in college. The age gap was also something I wasn’t expecting to affect me but it did. I learned more from the older students than ever before, that may be juggling school and work, while still giving you tips on what not to do. Lastly, the community and people around me was definitely an experience I will cherish and remember for a lifetime.

Where will you be employed?

Upland Hills Health | Dodgeville, Wisconsin

What will be your job title and responsibilities?

Medical Laboratory Technician. As a technician I will ensure the proper collection and analysis of various specimens. I will also hold a big role in detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases.
