Holly Crubel | 1997 Accounting graduate
We are so proud of our graduates, and especially grateful to those who come back to campus to work as employees of Southwest Tech. Today’s spotlight is on Holly Crubel. She is a 1997 Accounting program graduate and now works as the Grant Accountant at Southwest Tech.
I always knew I wanted to work with numbers so I chose Accounting for a college degree. I attended Western College in LaCrosse my freshmen year of college. I missed this area and knew Southwest Tech had a great reputation so I transferred to Southwest Tech for my 2nd year. I “jobbed out” (now referred to as Hired Before Graduation) in the Spring of 1997 with Applied Micro Technologies in Platteville. Southwest Tech provided me with the services to complete my degree early and start in the workforce full-time. After working 15 years at Applied Micro, I took the Financial Aid Assistant/Accounting Bursar job in December of 2012 at Southwest Tech. In 2013, I took a position in Accounts Payable and in 2014, I was offered the job as Grant Accountant where I am still at and LOVE! I am so fortunate to work for a college where students get to experience such a hands-on, small classroom learning environment that is affordable. The amount of resources that are available to these students is incredible! From financial services to housing to tutoring to creative, fun activities to on-campus mental health counseling services to liberal arts program to career services to our on-campus food pantry. The list goes on and on and on! Even though I do not get to work hands on with the students in my position, I have many opportunities myself to help our students out by donating to scholarships, contributing to our food pantry, donating clothes to our students to use for job interviews, etc.
I am so blessed to be part of the Southwest Tech Employee and Alumni family! And now, I am a parent of a Southwest Tech student. My son, Blake, has just completed his first year in the Agronomy program. My daughter, Mercede, was also just approved by the River Ridge School Board to participate in the Southwest Tech CollEDGE Up Healthcare Careers Program!
My passions outside of work are spending time with family and friends, seeing my kids happy, attending high school sporting events, camping and spending time on the river.
