Southwest Tech Spotlight: Janet and Krystle

Janet and Krystle Blabaum both attended Southwest Tech to pursue a career in nursing. Janet took classes part-time off and on since 2009 while working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at an area health care facility. Prior to that, she worked at Lands’ End for 25 years. Krystle started attending full-time in the fall of 2013, worked as a CNA part-time and took care of her young son. Both mom and daughter tagged-teamed college classes, work, and child care. They had to say “no” to a lot of things to keep it all going, but the group effort of this family made it all happen.

On Saturday, May 16, Janet and Krystle both graduated from Southwest Tech with an Associate Degree in Nursing – together. They live together, work together, go to college together, and graduated together.

“I don’t think many people can say they graduated from college with their mom. I’m proud of all we have accomplished and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”

Southwest Tech is proud to have been a part of Janet and Krystle’s journey. Congratulations to the Blabaum’s and all the other students who achieved their goals and graduated from Southwest Tech this spring. No one said college would be easy, but it will be worth it.
