Personal Note:

Erin’s fascination with birth started in childhood, and she knew during her first pregnancy that her passion was to be a midwife. After the birth of her second child, she became a doula and was heavily involved in the Milwaukee Area birth scene. Along the way she volunteered with WIC as a peer breastfeeding counselor, facilitating numerous support groups ranging from teen moms to c-section support, to parenting naturally. She was the treasurer and helped run a local doula, midwife and birthworker group for 15 years, taught childbirth education, and took doula clients in between raising her 5 beautiful children. It wasn’t until after her fifth child was in school that she was finally able to pursue her lifelong dream of catching babies, and she enrolled in Southwest Technical College’s Midwifery program in 2021. In 2024, she graduated from SWTC with her associate’s degree in Midwifery, was certified as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), and became a Licensed Midwife (LM) in the state of Wisconsin. In addition to teaching, Erin is the owner of Tapestry Midwifery, LLC, a homebirth practice serving families in the greater Milwaukee area.

Erin has always been passionate about educating, especially when it was related to pregnancy, birth, and parenting. She realized while still in school that she wanted to take part in educating future midwives in addition to practicing as one. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to support and encourage the passion for this invaluable work. She wants to bridge the space between the generations of community midwives and incorporate the ancestral knowledge and wisdom while incorporating the more modern approach to this profession, as there is value and importance in changing with new knowledge and respecting the ways that have come before us. She holds in reverence the important work of indigenous and midwives of color in keeping midwifery alive and thriving in the United States, and she recognizes the importance of having access to a diverse group of midwives for birthing people.

Erin enjoys reading, singing, songwriting, dancing, travel, practicing her rusty French, and spending time with her diverse group of friends and family. Her granddaughter (whose birth at home she attended as a student) is one of the greatest joys in her life and the reward for her 25+ years of parenting!
