Southwest Tech students, employees, and the public have a right to know certain information pertaining to academics, student concerns, reports, policies, financial information, data, and more. A number of federal/state regulations and laws that require colleges and universities to publicly disclose information are referenced below.
- Higher Education Act/Higher Education Opportunity Act’s purpose is to strengthen the educational resources of colleges and universities and to provide financial assistance for students in postsecondary and higher education.
- Student Right-to-Know and Campus Security Act of 1990 (amended by the Higher Educational Technical Amendments of 1991) requires public disclosure of relevant graduation, retention, transfer and placement rate information for students enrolled in colleges and universities receiving federal financial assistance.
- Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) requires colleges and universities to report campus crime data, support victims of violence, and publicly outline the policies and procedures they have put into place to improve campus safety.
- Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (VAWA) requires higher education institutions to disclose statistics of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking incidents; hate crime statistics; programs to prevent dating, domestic violence, and sexual assault policies; programs related to dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking; and procedures victims should follow if a crime of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking occur.

Annually Southwest Tech will distribute the following information to all enrolled students via the college website and/or email:

Costs/Financial Aid/Assistance Information
- The Tuition & Fees webpage lists the cost of tuition and fees, typical charges for room and board, and estimates of transportation costs. Individual program pages include the estimates of costs for necessary books and supplies and any additional costs, i.e. kits, tools, etc. if applicable. The individual program pages also include a Cost of Attendance chart.

Student Outcomes
- The Department of Education requires colleges to report the completion, graduation, transfer, retention, and placement rates of its certificate- or degree-seeking, first-time, full-time undergraduate students through the Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System (IPEDS). That information is then made available to the public on the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) webpage.
- Completion, Graduation, Transfer, Retention and Placement rates of all students are available in the Graduate Success Report, and Student Outcomes Report.

Legal Disclaimer for Accessing Student Records and Grades Online
Each User (e.g., Southwest Tech staff member, student or faculty member) is advised that access to student records and grades is governed by federal law. The Family Educational Reporting and Privacy Act (FERPA) requires a student to furnish written consent before his or her records can be released to anyone other than the student to whom the records pertain unless a clear statutory exemption for release of the records exist or the person requesting the records has a legally recognized need to know. Questions regarding the applicability of FERPA should be addressed to the User's supervisor or to Southwest Tech's director of administrative services.
The User shall not read, browse, modify or delete records from another's data or program without proper authority. Public access to computer screens must be avoided.
Access codes, passwords and personal identification numbers must be kept confidential. Users are expected to use appropriate safety measures in regard to records access. Inappropriate conduct includes but is not limited to showing a password to another person, displaying the password in public view and installing a password as a macro function.
Users are subject to disciplinary action and/or civil sanctions for violating records privacy.
