Lectures

Class starts Monday, 1/29/24 on campus starting with Orientation at 4pm Room 430. Lecture and Lab Skills to follow in Room 2634/2638 Health Science Bldg from 6pm to 9pm. Bring a laptop or Ipad to access Schoology to view the Gradebook and other course materials during Orientation. Lecture/Lab Skills will be on Mondays, 1/29, 2/5, 2/12, 2/26 and 3/4 and Thursdays, 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/22, 2/29 and 3/7 from 4pm to 9pm. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY

Labs

Lab Skills will follow lectures every Monday and Thursdays from 1/29/24 thru 3/7/24 Room 2634/2638

Clinicals

Clinical Location

Clinical sites at a long term care facility will be determined once class begins to accommodate a central location for all students.

Clinicals dates are 3/21, 3/25, 3/28, 4/1, 4/4, and 4/8 from 4pm to 9pm.

Total Course Hours (lecture, lab, and clinical) = 81 Hours
The Nursing Assistant course is regulated by the Department of Health Services - including course content and number of hours. Attendance is mandatory to ensure compliance with the State of Wisconsin requirements for Nursing Assistant training. Students are required to attend ALL 81 hours without exception to complete the course.

Materials needed before first day of class

  • Mosby’s Textbook for Nursing Assistants, 11th edition (eBook option available)
  • Chromebooks do not work with Schoology and the Respondus Lockdown Browser required for this course
  • 81 Hour Nursing Assistant Basic Student Learning Packet available at SWTC bookstore
  • Watch with a second hand
  • Shoes: Nonskid, no open toes
  • Scrubs required for clinical portion. Comfortable street clothes for lab
  • Additional supplies for lab will be explained at orientation

  3. Clinical site assignments, days, times, locations, rotations
  4. Information regarding the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry

Assignment to complete before first day of class

Chapter 1 pages 1-11, Chapter 2 pages 12-20, Chapter 3 pages 21-30, Chapter 4 pages 31-37, Chapter 5 pages 38-54, Chapter 6 pages 55-66 and Chapter 56 pages 860-869. Also read Introductory pages (cream colored pages) and Learning Objectives for Unit 1 in the NA packet.

*Notice to students under 18 years of age: The U.S. Department of Labor issued a ruling in 2011 that allows only nursing assistants 18 years of age and over to assist and operate client lift devices. Therefore, some nursing homes are choosing to hire only nursing assistants 18+ years of age. Please contact the nursing homes directly if you are under 18 and have questions regarding their hiring policy.
