- What are my chances of getting a scholarship?
- • While we cannot guarantee you will receive a scholarship, the Southwest Tech Foundation awards hundreds of scholarships each year and has new scholarships every year. We encourage all students to take the time to complete the online application because you may be the perfect match for one of our scholarships.
- What do I need to do to apply for the scholarships?
-
- Complete all sections of the online application. Ask the Knox Learning Center staff for help if you need it.
- Submit references to complete online recommendation forms. At the end of the application you will be asked for two names with email addresses to serve as references. We will email your references the link to the online recommendation form to complete. The form is short and should take only a few minutes to complete.
- For the Childcare Scholarship, complete the Childcare Verification Form.
- How do I know which scholarships I qualify for?
- When you complete the application, you don't need to worry about which scholarship is right for you. That's our job! All you need to do is prepare the best application you can. We use the same online application for all of our scholarships.
- I live with my parents, am I eligible? I don't have a great GPA, am I eligible? I'm only taking 6 credits, am I eligible?
- Yes, yes, yes! Many of our scholarships have no restrictions and are open to any Southwest Tech student in any program. Students must be taking 6 or more Southwest Tech credits and have a 2.0 overall GPA to qualify.
- What are some of the criteria for the scholarships?
- Common criteria include specific program of study and financial need. Other criteria some scholarships have are minimum GPA and completed credits. Because of the varied requirements, you may come across questions on the scholarship application that you are not comfortable answering. You can certainly leave them blank, but understand that we ask only to help match you to all of the scholarships for which you might qualify.
- When can I apply?
- The online application is available on December 1st each year.
- When is the application deadline?
- The deadline is March 31.
- Who chooses the scholarship recipients?
- Each application is graded by at least two volunteers – current and former staff members and board members. Application grades are then factored in with other scholarship criteria by the Foundation staff to make scholarship selections.
- When will I know if I got a scholarship?
- Email notifications are sent to students before the end of the spring semester. Be sure your address is up-to-date with the Foundation so you don’t miss out on your scholarship award!
- If I get a scholarship, will it affect my Financial Aid?
- No, our process is separate from Financial Aid.
- How will I receive my scholarship?
- Foundation scholarships are disbursed on your college billing account each semester. Any monies remaining on your account will be distributed via check from the Financial Aid Office during financial aid disbursement each semester.
- Is there anything I have to do to claim my Scholarship?
- Yes! You will receive an email notification that you were selected as a scholarship recipient that has your donor contact information.
- Your acceptance of your scholarship is your submission of your donor thank you letter emailed back to the Scholarship Administrator by the due date listed.
- Your attendance at the Scholarship Awards Reception in the fall may also be mandatory if your donor is present. Our donors love to meet their recipients!
- How do I find out about other scholarships that are available?
- There are countless scholarships available from other sources, with application deadlines throughout the year. We do our best to post these external scholarships on the Foundation Scholarships web page; look for the External Scholarships link. Please watch your email and check with the Financial Aid Office for information about other opportunities.
