Southwest Tech HIT Program and the Southwest Health Network (SHN)
Southwest Tech’s HIT program is unique in that it utilizes the knowledge and resources from the Southwest Heath Network (SHN) for its continued improvement and development. The SHN’s mission is to support formal rural health collaborative strategies that focus on activities relating to recruitment, education, training and retention of HIT Specialists in the region.
The SHN consists of the following partners:
- Southwest Wisconsin Workforce Development Board, Platteville
- Scenic Rivers Area Health Education Center, Cashton
- Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster
- Crossing Rivers Health, Prairie du Chien
- Southwest Health Center, Platteville
- The Richland Hospital, Richland Center
- Boscobel Area Health, Boscobel
- Scenic Bluffs Community Health Center, Cashton
- Southwest Wisconsin Technical College
- UW Health, Madison
The SHN assists with Southwest Tech’s HIT Program by focusing its activities relating to the recruitment, education, training and retention of HIT Specialists. Some of the specific ways the SHN does this include:
- Creation and design of curriculum to meet industry needs
- Critical role in the recruitment of students for training
- Provision of internship locations and mentoring for HIT students
- Retention of students in the HIT program
- Expansion of network partners
